Hedge Management

At Stevens Grounds Services, we provide professional hedge management services for households and commercial clients across Devon and the surrounding areas. From routine trimming to full hedge reductions, our fully qualified and insured team delivers a reliable, expert service that keeps your hedges and boundaries looking their best all year round.

Expert Hedge Care Tailored to Your Hedges

No two hedges are the same. Different species require different techniques, different tools, and different timings throughout the year to ensure they remain healthy, well shaped, and thriving. Whether you have a formal box hedge, a native hedgerow, a laurel boundary, or a mixed garden hedge, we tailor our approach to suit the specific needs of your plants — ensuring the best possible results without causing unnecessary stress or damage to the hedge.

Cutting With the Seasons

Timing is everything when it comes to hedge management. Cutting at the wrong time of year can damage growth, reduce flowering, and in some cases have serious legal implications. We work in line with the natural growing seasons, advising our clients on the best time to cut based on the species involved and the desired outcome — whether that's encouraging thicker, denser growth or maintaining a clean, formal shape.

Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981

We take our responsibilities to the environment seriously. Under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to intentionally damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built. This means hedge cutting during the main bird nesting season — typically March to August — should be avoided where possible. We always carry out a responsible assessment before any work begins and will advise you accordingly, ensuring your hedge management is carried out legally, ethically, and with full consideration for local wildlife.
